Will green energy save us from global warming?
Environment & Science ▼ World
The Problem
Energy is at the heart of some of the world’s biggest challenges. Around 1.2 billion people live without access to modern forms of electricity, and global annual greenhouse gas emissions have risen by more than 20% over the past decade. We need to keep the global temperature increase to below 2 degrees Celsius to combat climate change and protect the planet for generations to come. Sustainable energy is changing the old paradigm and providing developing countries with cost-effective and viable solutions.
The Solution
Sustainable energy can have a transformative impact worldwide. As well as being essential to tackling climate change, it also improves health and well-being, increases education opportunities and boosts local economies. Uncovering and showcasing sustainable energy trailblazers, supporting them to grow and advocating for the sector is key to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon world.
Who
Get Involved
Ashden is kindly inviting our Circle to its next leadership events where you can meet funders, policy-makers and energy innovators behind innovative solutions and business models such as smart mini-grids, Led lighting, pay-as-you go solar panels or clean cookstoves: if you like to attend these events, click on "count me in".
Why Walk The Talk supports Ashden
While the sector is growing, the development of new business models aimed at scaling up solutions is needed. Ashden has launched a collective made of Ashden award winners in India to engage the private sector, government agencies and other partners to help increase access to clean energy for India’s rural poor. This collaborative process is key to accelerate grid and off-grid solar energy and to enable the financial structure to support it.
